Avocado oil is extracted from the pulp of ripe fruit. This aromatic oil is widely used for various purposes, particularly in cooking for preparing various dishes and in cosmetics for hair and skin care. However, ready-made avocado oil is quite expensive, and it is often more profitable to make it yourself at home. It’s pretty simple, and after some methods, you’ll also have avocado puree left over, which is great for baking or fresh guacamole sauce!

Squeeze the oil out of cooked avocados

  1. Peel twelve avocados. Take twelve avocados and cut each fruit in half around the pit. Use a knife to cut the avocado in a circle so that the flesh around the pit is divided into two halves. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon and place it in a food processor or blender. Discard the skin and pit.
  2. Make avocado puree. Set the food processor or blender to the puree setting. Blend the avocado flesh until it becomes a smooth paste. Then transfer the puree to a medium-sized saucepan.
  3. Cook the avocado over medium heat. Place the saucepan over medium heat and heat the pulp, stirring every five minutes. When the puree begins to boil, bubbles will form and you will see the oil rise to the top.
  4. Cook the pulp until it darkens. Continue heating and stirring the puree until it changes from light green to dark green or brown and the excess water has boiled off.
  5. Transfer the avocado pulp to a bowl. Turn off the heat, let the puree cool, and transfer it to a bowl with a spoon. Cover the bowl with a clean, thin cloth, such as cheesecloth, press the cloth against the edges, turn the bowl upside down, and bring the edges of the cloth together. The result is a cheesecloth bag with avocado puree inside.
  6. Squeeze the oil out of the puree. Squeeze the bag over the bowl to squeeze the oil out of the pulp. The oil will drip into the bowl drop by drop. Change your grip and squeeze the bag on all sides for about a minute or until it stops dripping oil.
  7. Pour the oil into a container. Once you have squeezed all the oil out of the pulp, pour it from the bowl into a small bottle or other tightly sealed container. Your avocado oil is ready!
