Here, we come up with a traditional Good Friday treat Recipe. These Easy Homemade Hot Cross Buns are fluffy and slightly sweet.
First, you have to take a saucepan and mix 2 cups of milk, canola oil, 1/2 cup. Heat and stir simultaneously, but don't boil the mixture.
Turn off the heat and allow to cool (about 30 mins.) until the mixture is still lukewarm.
Sprinkle yeast and add 4 cups of all-purpose flour and stir to combine. Cover it with a cloth or towel and set aside for 1 hour.
Now, add 1/2 cup of flour baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir until mixed well.
Combine 1/4 cup of sugar with cinnamon and whatever spices you want to add.
Lightly flour the surface. Press to slightly flatten dough. Sprinkle a bit of sugar/cinnamon mixture. Sprinkle some raisins, then fold the dough over the raisins.
Flatten again and repeat the previous process of adding sugar mixture and raisins. Repeat again until all the raisins are used.
Pinch off the golf-ball-size buns. Quickly roll them into a ball with floured hand. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Cover them set them aside in a warm place for around 30 mins. (The more you set them aside the more it will be fluffy)
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Take a bowl and mix 1 egg white with a splash of milk. Brush on each roll.
Bake them for 20 mins. or until the top of buns turns golden brown. Allow them to cool on a cooling rack.
Mix 1 egg white with enough powdered sugar for icing to be very thick. Splash in milk to get the required consistency.
Add icing to a plastic bag and snip the corner with scissors. Make icing cross on each bun. Make sure all the buns are completely cooled before doing the icing process.
Your Easy Homemade Hot Cross Buns are ready to eat. Enjoy!
